No Doubt - Just a Girl

Released: September 21st, 1995

Album: Tragic Kingdom

Just A Girl became No Doubt's first single to chart in the United States, reaching #23 on the Billboard Hot 100

Interesting Facts: Just A Girl was written by Gwen Stefani after being scolded by her Father for driving home late from Tony Kanal's house, her bandmate. This led to the lyric: "I'm just a girl, I'd rather not be, cause they won't let me drive late at night."

The Fugees - Ready Or Not

Released: August 29th, 1996

Album: The Score

While only a minor hit in it's native United States, Ready Or Not topped the charts in Europe, specifically Iceland and the United Kingdom, where it stayed at #1 for two weeks.

Interesting Fact #1: The song samples "Boadicea" by Enya, and the Fugees were almost sued for copyright infringement, but settled out of court.
Interesting Fact #2: This is Barack Obama's favourite song.

Jewel - Foolish Games

Released: July 8th, 1997

Album: Pieces Of You

Foolish Games was the second single released off of Pieces Of You and peaked at #7 on the charts.

Interesting Facts: Foolish Games was actually released as a hidden bonus track on the CD Single "You Were Meant For Me", and because of this, it enjoyed twice the amount of time on the charts, occupying a position with the aforementioned single, as well as it's own debut. Combined, the two songs remained on the charts for 65 weeks.
